FIRST RESPONDER SPOTLIGHT: Jace Treadway

Jake Treadway

Moore Fire Department

Education: Tecumseh High School

BACKGROUND: I went to high school in Tecumseh and joined the military after I graduated. I met my wife when I was stationed in California, and we moved back home where I worked at Tinker before I became a firefighter.

REASON FOR BECOMING A FIREFIGHTER: I had been working out at Tinker for about five years and I just woke up one day and decided that I wanted to do something different. My wife and I spent some time talking about it and I decided to look into. What I discovered is that it seemed to me that firefighters had a very unique job that challenges them in a lot of different ways. You have to develop different skills that push you physically and mentally. That seemed like a great fit for me and my wife agreed, so I took the plunge.

LIFE AS A FIREFIGHTER: There are two things I really enjoy about being a firefighter. The first is the sense of genuine satisfaction you get when you’re able to help people who are at their most vulnerable moment. We go out on a lot of different calls that people would look at and say, “Some are more serious than others.” But the thing is EVERY call is serious to the person who is in need of help. No matter what the problem is, we take it seriously and it feels great to help those folks out. The second thing I love is working with this team in Moore. It’s a great department to work for and it’s definitely a brotherhood . You’re up here 24-hours at a time, you’re training, working out, and eating together. It definitely becomes one giant family.

This department is also great at working to be our best. We exercise and working on training exercises nearly every shift. That’s anything from medical to hazmat training. So, we’re always doing everything we can to improve our skills and efficiency. There’s no question that for me, this is the greatest job I’ve ever had.

FAMILY: As I mentioned, I’m married and we have two kids. One who is six and the other turned three just last week. We’re happy to be living here in Oklahoma.
